HOAX CALLS COST LIVES
In 2005/06 Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service recieved 254 malicious calls.
Each call requires one, or sometimes two fire appliances to be mobilised
- each with fire crews.
Each hoax call out costs a great deal of time and consumes valuable
resources - this is a waste of public funds.
More importantly it costs lives.
It means that we are not available to protect the public when and
where we should be.
It could mean that when your family need our help in an emergency
from a fire, a road accident or to rescue someone trapped - we are
chasing thin air.
Stop - Think - Don't make that call.
All 999 calls to the emergency services are recorded.
We now have the technology to trace all calls - even those made
from mobile phones.
WE COULD HAVE YOUR PHONE CUT OFF!
WE MIGHT EVEN TAKE YOU TO COURT!
We are here to help and protect the public that includes you, your
family and your friends.
